The Qiang New Year Festival is celebrated on the
first
(one) day of the tenth lunar month
by
the Qiang people in Sichuan Province, China. This festival is a special time for the Qiang people to show their thanks and respect, strengthen their bond with nature,
and
promote harmony in their families and community. It also helps guide how people in the community should behave and encourages
sharing
(share) between different generations. The festival brings together people of all ages to celebrate and has become a way for the Qiang people to connect with each other
communally
(community), supporting social development.
In 2009, the Qiang New Year Festival
was added
(add) to the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding. At that time, fewer people were celebrating the festival because many had moved away; young people were losing interest
in
young traditions. Outside cultures
had
(have) an influence. The 2008 Sichuan earthquake also destroyed many Qiang villages, putting the festival
at
risk. Since then, efforts
have been made
(make) to rebuild hope and strength after the earthquake and to raise awareness about food security and the protection of the environment.
Traditionally
(tradition), knowledge about the festival was passed down within families. Over time, these traditions and the Qiang language have been included in schools,
which
has made young people know more about their culture. The festival and efforts
to protect
(protect) it have been included in local development plans.
